A timid, unhappy girl named Anna confronts the sad fact that her cautious choices have made her become the lamest possible version of herself. In the last 6 months, 30 versions of Anna from other universes have been zapped through the wormhole at the U.S. Department of Parallel Resettlement, indicating that our Anna is about to break Pattern -- a complicated cosmic logarithm that determines one’s destiny. Anna is told that if she breaks Pattern now, she will destroy the entire known universe. Anna is introduced to her other versions and, to her chagrin, they are all amazing -- a world-class flamenco dancer, a best-selling novelist, a do- gooder feeding the homeless. What’s worse, in each past choice that split them, our Anna always took a more cowardly direction. The Department concludes Anna’s Pattern to be one of caution -- she is the version who makes decisions based on what’s safest. Weighed with the plight of 7 billion people, Anna is determined to maintain her boring trajectory. However, realizing what she could have become, that in fact out of all the versions of herself she is the dud, Anna is inspired now more than ever to change her ways.
