Nicole, a young Jamaican child, lives with her sister, Yellow Girl, and Yellow Girl’s pimp, Javoy. On her 10th birthday, Nicole longs to go to the river with Yellow Girl, where she will finally be able to learn how to swim. Like the water, Nicole does not resist; she dreams of a day when they will swim away together and start new lives. However, when Yellow Girl does not keep her promise to return home, Nicole falls victim to Javoy, and she realizes that she is next in line for a lifestyle of sexual abuse. Nicole is forced to decide how far she will go in order to protect herself and her sister.
