An African American teen, Akil, has wings and one goal: to take his first flight. First flights are a huge deal, a rite of passage. However, Akil's excitement about finally having functional wings he can control is short-lived. With "no-fly zones" increasing rapidly and weaponized flying drones policing the dystopian city, his parents are hesitant to celebrate this moment due to their fears and insecurities that come with flying. So as Akil prepares for his first flight with the help of his crush and two best friends, he has one major question: will he fall to the same fate as his father?
