UNDERWATER
Synopsis
UNDERWATER is a powerful film about a little girl named Patty Rose who is haunted by the memories of an incestuous incident. Set in a lakeside town, Patty confuses her fears of the past with the lake waters. Living with this traumatic experience alienates Patty from kids her own age, as well as beyond arms reach of her mother.
Patty's curiosity and imagination are set free through a secret admiration she develops for an older girl, Hilary White. Unable to confront this mysterious woman about the town, Patty intercepts Hilary's mail and begins living vicariously through the secret joys and pain of another similarly troubled girl.
One day, Patty stumbles upon a letter of blackmail addressed to Hilary and is faced with a real decision that compels her to come out of her shell. Standing up to the past, Patty rises above her fears with tremendous compassion in an act of extraordinary heroics.
