Kenneth Hudson comes home from Harvard to attend a wedding. His cousin is marrying into a cultured family. His own working class black family seems to be simpler and cruder, and when his father crashes drunkenly to the floor, Kenneth's shame is complete. As the film evolves, Kenneth comes to realize how much he does love his own family.
