At the turn of the century, Mortimer, a dwarf employed by a village mortician, encounters a traveling theatrical troupe. Captivated by the splendor of the performers, he flees his lonely existence with the mortician to pursue a life in the theatre. Vandal, a flamboyant magician, and Una, his beautiful wife, employ him as their assistant. Soon, Mortimer falls in love with Una and entangels himself in a dangerous triangle of love.
