Set on the 1800’s frontier, Leora is an outcast in her religious community due to her inability to bear children. Then, on her sister's wedding day, Leora feels the shame of the villagers on her. The call of an ancient woodland god named the Erl King drives her into the forest where he offers her a chance at a new life if she just submits to him. She gives herself over and starts a new life full of hope and joy. However, the forest starts to whisper warnings about the Erl King. As she presses him for details about the warnings, welts start to appear on her body until, one night, she awakes from a nightmare to find vines sprouting from her welts. She runs into the forest, searching for the Erl King, only to find the secret he's been planning for her all along.
