Edith (92) finds herself at the end of her life. Today she must transfer from the hospital to her final home at the hospice. With her family out of the picture, it becomes the responsibility of Howard (34) to deliver her safely. Unhappy working as an orderly, the last thing he needs is an old woman giving him grief about his shortcomings. But when he fails to reach the departing shuttle in time, Howard must push Edith nine miles to the Hospice on the other side of town. Along the way Edith convinces Howard to take her on a detour and visit her old high school. As the day progresses the two realize they may have more common than they first thought. Together, Edith experience life one last time, and helps Howard discovers it for the first time.
