On the eve of his child's birth JAMES returns to his childhood home and is overwhelmed with the memories of his workaholic father, MATT, who he finally walked out on when he was twenty. James lived, worked and became successful without much contact with his father. One night he receives a call from a doctor telling him that his father is sick. James visits his father one last time and finds that he didn't have anyone to help him. James helps him shave and Matt finally confesses that he didn’t know how to be a father because his own father passed away when he was young so he didn’t have a fatherly role model. He now recognizes that the way he treated James was wrong. However, the damage is done as James has already had a bad childhood without a good role model to follow. James is becoming a father and as he reflects on this memory he finally understands how his father felt. He is terrified and doesn't know if he will be a good father because his father did not himself have a good role model.
