Joliana is an imaginative but lonely nine-year-old girl living on an isolated island with her parents who work as pearl divers. Business is poor, and her family is about to be evicted from their home. One night, Joliana is astounded to see a pearl fall from the moon. Now believing that this is where pearls grow, she secretly decides to embark on a mission to fly to the moon and save her family—as only a child who knows nothing of danger can.
