When a falling tree branch breaks the windshield of her recently deceased father’s truck, thirteen-year-old ELLIE is reminded that he’s not ever coming back. Haunted by reminders, she pushes her mother back. Against her mother’s wishes, Ellie sneaks out of the house and goes on a camping trip with her best friend BOWIE and his father, ARTHUR. Despite her best efforts to runaway from her grief, Ellie’s confronted by it again when she finds a dead bird and its orphaned egg in the woods. The disturbing image haunts Ellie and leads her to sneak into Arthur’s tent, futilely attempting to re-experience the comforting presence of having a father figure. When Arthur wants an explanation as to why she’s in his tent, Ellie breaks down. Ellie goes back home and accepts the comforting embrace of the one parent she still has left.
