A young boy witnesses his mother being killed by a mob during Burundi’s civil war and goes blind due to the trauma. The only thing that remains of his mother is her guitar and the memory of their favorite song. He clings onto the guitar, but vows to never play it again. Orphaned he is given in the custody of Maggy Barankitse, who belongs to the ethnic group that killed his mother. Now the boy has to decide whether to take her offer of help or remain isolated.
